First there were the stories of justifiable outrage.. 62-year-old woman finally gets fed up
Now we find that the feds are discussing ways to start undoing the damage.
TSA May Make Screening Concessions
The federal agency in charge of aviation security is considering major changes in how it screens airline passengers, including proposals that an official said would lift the ban on carrying razorblades and small knives as well as limit patdown searches.
An initial set of staff recommendations drafted August 5 also proposes that passengers no longer have to routinely remove their shoes during security checks. Instead, only passengers who set off metal detectors, are flagged by a computer screening system or look “reasonably suspicious” would be asked to do so, a TSA official said Saturday.
The August 5 memo recommends reducing patdowns by giving screeners the discretion not to search those wearing tight-fitting clothes. It also suggests exempting several categories of passengers from screening, including federal judges, members of Congress, Cabinet members, state governors, high-ranking military officers and those with high-level security clearances.
Could we also add little old ladies in tennis shoes to the list, please?
I’m still highly doubtful that any meaningful changes will be made.
The airport in nearby Kinston, NC, was shut down for 3 hours recently — 3 hours! — because a dentist on his way to a dental convention had a WaterPik in his carry-on. The screener saw it on the the x-ray and thought it was suspicious. The entire flight was ultimately cancelled, with out-of-town passengers put up in local motels until the next flight out.
I think there is some room for improvement in the lock-down protocols.
YOUR WRONG, JOHN.
There will be changes….
There will be ANOTHER special list that the average person is not good enough for. Another special concession.
After all (note the heavy sarcasm), we can’t have members of Congress actually LIVE by the laws they pass. We can’t have the President actually live by his oath of office. We can’t even have local police enforce the laws they were hire to enforce.
After all…. we can’t have “undue” pressure on the poeple who make or enforce the rules for the sheep.
