Personal Tech Pipeline | iPod Users Hate Cell Phones – Survey — Oh gee, according to this survey iPOD owners hate cell phones and, well, uh, that must mean that the upcoming Motorola iPOD/phone is a bad idea. Has anyone pointed out to these researchers (or the thousands of bloggers who have been pointing to this research with glee) that the audience for the iPOD/phone are not current iPOD users? If you haven’t noticed, they already own iPODS! This combo phone is a new channel. Do a survey with people who want an iPOD and a phone but do not want to lug around both. I bet the results would be a lot different. What idiocy.
A British sociologist has bad news for the mixed-media wizards looking to use streaming video and other tactics to tap into the lucrative IPod culture.
He’s found that owners of Apple’s popular digital music player love being able to shut out the world’s distractions, hate their cellphones and would prefer not to talk to anyone.
If they hate their cellphones, why do they have one? 😛
They sound like the kids who se parents bought them a Nintendo before anyone else in the block. I’d rather own a sony mp3 walkman or something done by matsushita since EVERYONE seems to be getting an iPod.

I’m always surprised that kind of reaction – where something is avoided just because it is popular.
I once had a roomate whose main criteria for clothing & music seemed to be that it was something which was not popular.
I remember when [ how many years ago? ] the NW band Sleater-Kinney [ link = ] was nominated for a music award, and some fans – interviewed after the band didn’t win – were glad, because the award would have brought more attention/popularity to the band – and those particular fans would then have to find other bands to listen to.
Are people afraid of being judged a “sheep”, if it isn’t perfectly-clear that they are not “following the herd”?
Actually no, it’s more of an aversion therapy for me. It reminded me of the way Tommy Hilfiger clothing took my country by storm, first it was cool to see some wear those clothes, BUT eventually it became so popular it was eerie to see men of all ages wearing the same clothing.
Plus I don’t like the iPod casing, it feels like something designed by Oster or Kitchen Aid and I just get the odd feeling that I’m going to bake something with it.
