LBJ — the other Texas Prexy — Who is Worse?
Generals Offer Sober Outlook on Iraqi War — So it looks like this is never going to end. Great. The last President from Texas did this to us too. Give Texas to Mexico!
BAGHDAD, Iraq, May 18 – American military commanders in Baghdad and Washington gave a sobering new assessment on Wednesday of the war in Iraq, adding to the mood of anxiety that prompted Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to come to Baghdad last weekend to consult with the new government.
In interviews and briefings this week, some of the generals pulled back from recent suggestions, some by the same officers, that positive trends in Iraq could allow a major drawdown in the 138,000 American troops late this year or early in 2006. One officer suggested Wednesday that American military involvement could last “many years.”
Welcome to “Nam part 2 – We Did It Again”, boys.
Trouble is, *everyone* could see this coming. I’m sure your government could too. Why couldn’t the american public?
I still remember the caution with which Bush I approached war in 1990. Contrast that with the glee Bush II did it this time… America kicks ass! America is the new Rome… Woohaah!!!
đ
Blah! Get outta there while you still can… Save your money and your kids lives. If you wait the Middle East will be such a stinking mess it won’t sort itself out for at least a couple of centuries… A new global power might even come out of this… One that just might not be friendly to us westerners….
Since Europe is so much closer to hell than the US we might even have to start making better and bigger guns ourselves just to stay safe…
How’d that be for a complete f&”up of the US weapons industry?
Was it wrong that my first thought was, sober, as in virus?
To my defence you did put the word ‘Outlook’ in the title, and considering how notorious outlook is, can I be blamed?
Since our government used false data to get into this mess, can’t they scare up more false data to get us out? You know, like the new Iraq democracy is established and stable?

You could but you have to remember that America (under G.Bush II) wants to be a major trading partner with the Middle East. We want to exchange Catholicism for oil. You see…our Catholic extremists are much better than those Islamist extremists because Catholics use money to get their way and Islamists use violence. It’s all in the method used for manipulation and control.
Of course, don’t consider that we hate that we can’t use money to manipulate them (as they are sitting on a big black pile of it) so we had to resort to violence ourselves and then manipulate the facts. With these newly minted “facts” backed up with financial and political promises, some other countries were able to see things our way and provide some perceived support. Lesson: Money has the ability to absorb truth like a blackhole absorbs light.
I believe you mean Christian?
I canât help but remember that before the start of the Iraq War, several top Generals, including the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, said that there were not enough troops to properly win the war. The estimated number was around 400,000. I do not remember the Chairmanâs name but he was âallowedâ to retire very soon after.
As these top military men know, for the United States to conquer Iraq was a given, to win the population over is a much tougher job. In Vietnam the enemy was just north in North Vietnam. In Iraq, the enemy is all around in all the Islamic countries. In both countries they blended into the background population.
By 1968 the CIA was convinced that in order to win in Vietnam they had to win over the peasants. They brought food, implements, and health care to the countryside. They were succeeding in spite of the militaryâs constant interference and counter purpose.
America won the war, but lost the peace. The parallels in Iraq are so similar that there can be but one outcome.
Just my two cents worth of daily drivel
