Xbox 360 demos running on Macs | CNET News.com There is some sort of screwball irony to this..
The nifty clips of video games supporting Microsoft’s new Xbox 360 console are running on Apple machines, Microsoft confirmed on Friday.
“We purchased a number of Apple G5’s because very specific hardware components of the G5 allow developers to emulate some of the technology behind future Xbox products and services,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement. “This is an interim development tool that will be replaced with a more powerful and comprehensive solution later.”
The current systems shown at product introductions are prototypes. Final systems are expected to come out in all three major regions–North America, Europe and Asia–by the end of the year.
The prices for the new consoles have yet to be announced, but executives have said they won’t be released until after the E3 game conference in Los Angeles next week.
Tee-Hee!
It’s the chip. Now, this is the millenium – in fact, a little past – so watch carefully:
Both the Apple G5’s and the Xbox are running – tada! – IBM chips!
Does this mean anything, Dear Dr Dvorak? Or is it just an accident?

Now I’m angry with you !!! I was taking a drink of coffee when I scrolled onto this article. Now there is coffee all over my key board and desk. Not to mention dripping from my nose.
I wish I could have said it as well as Ed did.
Interesting that IBM is now going to be making the processors for Macs, X-box 360, Playstation 3 (Cell – with Sony & Toshiba), and Nintendo (unless the Revolution moves away from PowerPC chips?).
No wonder they sold their computer business. Who needs to compete in that market, when you can own the console market – no matter which console wins the most market-share.
Now we know why Microsoft bought VirtualPC. They have to come up with x86 emulation to run the old X-box games. Don’t know why I didn’t see that sooner. Duh.
I’d like to add another …
Haaaha
First Mr.Gates says iPods will die, Allshin says Apple copies MS ideas from windows developer conferences, then ironically, they have to use a Mac product to show off their own next killer product. I guess they are really rushing the xbox 360 out.
I told myself to never MS-bash again (since they didn’t do me any real harm … except waste my time massively with crashes and patches and charged me like they embeded a diamond in the CD jewel box) … but its hard to resist
