My current browser stats taken just before this post. This is the version influenced most by East Coast readers. As the day goes on the Firefox numbers get to about 55-percent.

IBM backs Firefox in-house | CNET News.com FYI.

IBM is encouraging its employees to use Firefox, aiding the open-source Web browser’s quest to chip away at Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.

Firefox is already used by about 10 percent of IBM’s staff, or about 30,000 people. Starting Friday, IBM workers can download the browser from internal servers and get support from the company’s help desk staff.

IBM’s commitment to Firefox is among its most prominent votes of confidence from a large corporation. Based on development work by the nonprofit Mozilla Foundation, Firefox has been downloaded by more than 50 million people since it debuted in November. Internet Explorer still dominates the overall market by far, though, with Firefox’s share in the single digits.

This has got to driving Bill, Steve and all the other clowns at M$ crazy!

It won’t happen. Remember about a year or so ago when IBM was going to convert all of its employees’ desktops to Linux. That failed for one reason: Internet Explorer. Or is this article puts it, IBM’s “internal help desk supports only the Windows-based Internet Explorer browser.”

IBM is basically schizophrenic. A good example is OS/2 Warp. While one side of the company was hyping OS/2 as the next best thing, the marketing side of IBM was pre-installing Windows 95 on all new IBM machines.

Is there anyone in charge at IBM?! When Gates makes a decision, Microsoft follows. When Jobs makes a decision, Apple follows. Who follows whom at IBM?! It seems utterly chaotic.

I find Firefox constantly crashing with multiple Tabs open on Solaris.

I wonder how reliable it is on AIX.

The Open Source community is growing. Every small step towards Linux and Firefox is a step away from M$. With every company getting on board, there is now a larger community. With the larger community, there comes more support.

And pretty soon, all those nickels and dimes make up a lot of dollars. I suggest that anyone owning M$ stock to dump it soon, while it is still worth something.

    HEY BILL !!!

Step by step, slowly we come. Closer and closer.

TAG, you’re it. Your turn to make something truly innovative.

I think every one should use firefox. MSIE is the worst browser on the planet. I wonder if Bill Gates himself uses it.

Then again if they improve IE they’d get sued to death. May be they should release some extensions to IE and keep the crap version in Longhorn. Those who need the better functionality in IE can download the extensions.

Opera is a great browser, but I hate the way it saves files.
