ITP.net {News: No regional plans for Microsoft’s easy OS} What’s this about?

Microsoft is continuing to expand trials of its Windows XP Starter Edition OS, but the firm still has no plans to include the Middle East in its schedule.

In August last year the software giant announced the first trial of its simplified software platform. Physically rolled out two months later, this trial covered Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. In September 2004 Microsoft then announced plans to also include Russia and India in the scheme, expanding the number of pilot markets to five.

Since Gates [legitimately] is a charity maven, I think he resents the half-dozen or so projects looking to distribute really cheap computers w/Wen connections to the Third World. All the others are based on Linux, one flavor or another.

I guess this is supposed to show that he can do it, too. If anyone ever decides to take him up on it. And his OS works.

    This decade.

I’d love to try out the starter edition too. I find it hilarious. Have you heard it only runs on “cheap” CPUs too? E.g., Duron, Celeron, etc. It will not run on a top end PC.

It’s a real good thing Microsoft doesn’t sell cars. Its idea of cheap transportation would be a car that cannot travel on expressways, couldn’t parallel park, and couldn’t carry more than one person at a time.

Unless you have a P4 or Athlon http://news.com.com/Windows+for+India%2C+others+wont+run+on+faster+chips/2100-1016_3-5704942.html?tag=nl

This year those are top of the line “fast” cpus, but what about 5 years from now? The OS will still be crippled. Its close source, you can’t go in a fix it.

Seriously, I can’t tell if your trolling or not, but I think hooking its fortunes to Microsoft is about the worst thing the developing world can do.
