Profile: the new Pope – World – Times Online He’s Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger and he will become Pope Benedict XVI. This is the guy, who during the US election campaign, said that pro-choice politicians should be denied Communion. Some excerpts below.
In 1981 he became Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, formerly the Inquisition, where he earned the nickname “The Enforcer”, and Dean of the College of Cardinals in 2002. He and the late Pope were referred to as “intellectual bedfellows”.
Ah! The “enforcer” and the return of the Inquisition. This should be fun.
Pope Benedict XVI is the eighth German pope. His accomplishments are many, he speaks ten languages and likes to play Beethoven on the piano.
Curiously we cannot elect a President who can speak good English.
But it is in his enforcement of Church doctrine that he has made so many enemies around the world. He said it was “an enormous mistake” to allow Turkey to join the European Union, has described rock music as a “vehicle of anti-religion” and believes cloning is a more serious threat to humanity than weapons of mass destruction. He believes the ban on women priests is necessary to safeguard doctrine, is against multiculturalism and believes that the Church of England is not a proper church. Other religions he regards as deficient and homosexuality in his view is an “intrinsic moral evil”
Apparently he’s outspoken in ten languages too!

Well, he seems to be a very gentle man, so hopefully we won’t be hearing no AUSSLANDER RAUSS yells in the halls of the Vatican. Most prognostics around here are that this Papacy won’t be very long – the man is 78 after all, but only God knows 😉 Let’s give him a chance.
Another guy from the Holy Roman Empire. Looks like the Catholics have found the perfect guy to illustrate how twisted and backwards the Catholic Church has become. He can make an ass of himself in ten languages. Let the entertainment begin!
Yeah, this should be good, but remember, he’s starting out 20 years older than JP2 did, so his ability to leave a significant mark is greatly diminished. Not impossible, of course, but if he wants to do anything significant, he’ll need to act quickly (which in Vatican terms is less than 5 years). I suspect he’ll soften it up quite a bit.
I had always thought that only cardinals could become pope. But I recently learned that any catholic male could possibly be elected. Out of that little tidbit I created a new movie staring Adam Sandler.
He stars as a Jewish guy who converts to Catholicism after falling in love with a woman. Due to a bureaucratic screw up, he’s elected as pope for a week. The title? The Kosher Pope.
So, if this guys was “The Enforcer”, where was he throughout the child abuse stuff was happening? If there is any place that NEEDS and inquisition, it’s in that part of the church.
Somehow, it seems to be more important to these guys to protect the institution than to serve the faithful.
