The Glory of Carniola: Slovenia is the new Switzerland, Ljubljana is the next Prague. — I think Slovenia is one of the finest and cleanest little countries one can imagine. And it’s centrally located. But to equate it with Switzerland, a tax haven and world banker is beyond laughable. And Switzerland also has numerous world-class cities (Zurish, Lucern, Geneva, Bern to name a few). Slovenia has Ljubljana and that’s that. That said Slovenia probably makes some of the best wine outside of France and Italy and as far as I’m concerned that’s good enough.

Anyway, this is an award-winning blog worth reading if you are looking for offbeat information and especially if you are ever planning a trip to the Slovenian side of the Adriatic which also includes the larger and more dominant country of Croatia with its stupendous attractions. If you are thinking of trips to Europe I’d advise the inexpensive Slovenia and Croatia as well as other former Yugoslav areas. This is where the Europeans go themselves to save money and have fun. Very accessible by train.

For those who want to see some pics, here is a slideshow I made in Slovenia.

Good photos. Looks like a place I’d like to visit.

  2. Hank says:

My browser choked on your slideshow but the first photo looked like Victoria BC, which I remember you saying you liked.

By the way, John. I sure get a lot of network errors on your site. I’m halfway around the world but, even so, your site seems worse than most.

  3. site admin says:

I have not heard these sorts of complaints except from people using the Safari browser.

  4. site admin says:

if you looked at the slide show you’d see that I DID manage to get out of town.

  5. Barrie Redfern says:

Slovenia is Europe’s best kept secret. The whole country has so much to offer. It’s commercial life is modern and extremely go-ahead yet at the same time Slovenia is one of the most beautiful lands in Europe. I get the feeling this is place where the government really does know how to run things. No wonder it’s in the EU and its eastern neighbours are still waiting.
