I was in Vegas last week. Inside the rooms on the emergency sprinklers there was this sign. Each sprinkler had one. How dumb are the customers, anyway? I’ll have more to say about this hotel later.

I don’t think people are as stupid as you think, merely resourceful. I once had a friend who used a drafting table as his kitchen table. If you don’t know, drafting tables are tilted at an angle.

I asked him why and his response was very interesting. Since it was at an angle, it stopped people from putting stuff on it, which kept the table clear.

The moral of the story? Give people an opportunity, and they’ll take advantage of it. Even if it means hanging a shirt on a sprinkler.

Lowest Common Denominator policy; when everyone has the ‘right’ to sue, suppliers of goods/services have to ensure that the stupidest are warned… I’m surprised that there is no pictogram warning of potential water sprays…. Of course, a simple hook mounted on a door ‘might’ alleviate the problem.

  3. Thomas says:

Think about it this way John, someone at some point was dumb enough to hang a bunch of crap on the sprinkler and probably break it. So, to answer your question, “How dumb are the customers?” Pretty dumb.

  4. “How dumb …” is beside the point.
Arriving on Daytona 500 weekend at a nice Holiday Inn Express North of Daytona, we discovered that the local fire department was just leaving. All the help maid & laundry was wheeling water out the door in anything available. Water was standing on the tile floor in front of the desk. The electricity was off & the Desk Clerk, who may have been the Manager, wasn’t very happy. He implied that a guest had set off the ‘sprinklers’ (on purpose) in the Ballroom while ‘horsing around’ during some post-race revelry.

  5. Ima Fish says:

John, I found an ever better example. Near the bottom of the bag of Tostitos brand tortilla chips, it says, “Perfect For Nachos!” I’m serious! Are we that stupid that we need to be told that nachos require tortilla chips?!

  6. leonardo says:

Nothin’ to worry bout man!! Just a sign for the locals. If you strolled down Freemont Street, ya know what I mean
