Careful with your $2 bills | JohnWulff.com— This is funny since I use $2 bills constantly (I order them from the bank). Most people are glad to see them but every once in a while I see someone looking askance. That any USA law enforcement agency would do this (as reported below) is beyond belief. In fact I do not believe this story. These would have to be the stupidest cops in the world. Seriously. There is no police department anywhere in the USA (especially in a metro county area) this dumb. Can’t happen. If someone can actually verify this story I would be shocked. Seriously shocked. AND I’d love to be the lawyer on this false arrest case.

PUT YOURSELF in Mike Bolesta’s place. On the morning of Feb. 20, he buys a new radio-CD player for his 17-year-old son Christopher’s car. He pays the $114 installation charge with 57 crisp new $2 bills, which, when last observed, were still considered legitimate currency in the United States proper. The $2 bills are Bolesta’s idea of payment, and his little comic protest, too.

For this, Bolesta, Baltimore County resident, innocent citizen, owner of Capital City Student Tours, finds himself under arrest.

Finds himself, in front of a store full of customers at the Best Buy on York Road in Lutherville, locked into handcuffs and leg irons.

Finds himself transported to the Baltimore County lockup in Cockeysville, where he’s handcuffed to a pole for three hours while the U.S. Secret Service is called into the case.

But if it is true, my vote for the most embarrassing part is this quote:

For Baltimore County police, said spokesman Bill Toohey, “It’s a sign that we’re all a little nervous in the post-9/11 world.”

  2. Tenaya says:

Maybe Best Buy will pay his false arrest lawsuit settlement in $2 bills.

Lutherville, isn’t that 42 miles northwest of Smallville?

  3. gquaglia says:

I believe it. Don’t you know by know John that for the most part this is a county of Morons. A people who probably couldn’t name a least 5 US Senators including the 2 from their own state, but could rattle off 10 years worth of sports stats or who was the latest person to be voted off American Idol. America is being slowly stupified by mindless TV, rap music and a declining public education system.

I can’t believe the World’s Foremost Cynic cannot believe this story.
This stuff happens every day just at the airports.
All SOP now, from the pointless arrest, to the abusive holding conditions to the excuse, now universal for police excess :
” For Baltimore County police, said spokesman Bill Toohey, “It’s a sign that we’re all a little nervous in the post-9/11 world.”
Yup, now joining “the dog ate my homework”, “I don’t call that sex” and “I was in Toledo at the time'” in the American Dumb Excuses Hall of Fame, we have: “9/11 made me do it.”

Villagers alarmed as tall man sports 2 dollar bills

  5. Eric Simonson says:

Typical BestBuy customer support. Mr. Bolesta must have declined the Extended Service Plan.

  6. Eric Simonson says:

Normal BestBuy customer support. Usually they reserve handcuffing for those customers declining the Extended Protection Plan.

  7. Ed Campbell says:

Here’s a link to a repeat of the article. Apparently, it first appeared March 8th. They name all the cops, the secret service agent, the address of the Best Buy where he was arrested, the whole disaster.

    I’m not surprised.

    How much do they cost?

[Somebody had to ask.. might as well be me. 🙂 ]

  9. Jojo says:

So, when they say “nervous and post 9-11 world” supposed to mean that anyone who uses what is thought to be counterfeit currency is a terrorist?

  10. Bryan says:

I love $2 bills too. One nice thing about them is they are almost always in nice condition since no one uses them.

I like to have them padded together like a notepad (http://www.moneypads.com/products.html) and then tear them off (sequential serial numbers, of course) and hand them to the cashier.

    Then they look REALLY fake.

    LOL, Bryan!
Since the topic of $2 bills has been brought up, it has dawned on me that the reason I haven’t liked $2 bills is because they are lone wolves that don’t quite fit in with the other wallet critters. Now I see that if one used them regularly, they would actually be quite handy.

As a footnote, I must say that the story cited in the original post becomes instantly believable once one sees that it occurred at a Best Buy store.

  12. Mike Test says:

2 dollar bills are also great for origami! They are always crisp, and are the only pretty bill we have.
(OK, I know it’s an expensive hobby, but you can always unfold it and spend it.)

  13. jeb says:

How much do they cost? can you take a guess? I’ll give you a hint…They are called $2 bills for a reason.
