BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Farm animals ‘need emotional TLC’

Farm animals have feelings which should be respected and catered for, academics at a London, UK, meeting have said.

They believe animals should not be dismissed as simple automatons – cows take pleasure in solving problems and sheep can form deep friendships.

Delegates from around the globe were speaking at the Compassion in World Farming Trust (CIWF Trust) conference.

They shared ways of exploring the minds of animals, as well as monitoring their suffering and alleviating their pain.

Then once they learn to trust us we kill them and eat them!

  1. Jim says:

Don’t worry we’ve got a kinder gentler machine gun hand. They put deer in a local park here and people fed them for years, kids visited and then they brought in archery hunters for a big controlled kill in the public park. It was because the yuppies were complaining in the exclusive neighborhood next to the park. You can trust deer more than most people.

Are you kidding?! Are we going to start asking cows how they feel about life? Perhaps we can setup a chicken focus group. This is utter (pun intended) PETA-esce nonsense.

  3. raddad says:

I’ve raised cows, goats and chickens. While not robots, they aren’t very bright and it didn’t bother me to eat them. I got over the realization long ago that in order to have dinner, something had to die. We can’t survive by eating rocks. It’s nature and our natural diet includes plants and animals.

  4. John Schumann says:

    “You are what you eat”.

That’s probably why we’ve got a country that acts like a pack of Orcs. Everybody is eating Orc food.

  5. Ed Campbell says:

Hey, Miguel — he’s not writing any sci-fi, lately; but, read “Under The Skin” by Michel Faber. I won’t give away the plot; but, it WILL prompt some thought about diet!
