Prediction: More talk of global warming.

SBS – The World News — VILLAGE RE-EMERGES IN DROUGHT

As much of western Europe, including Spain, is gripped by heavy snowfalls and bitterly cold weather, a crippling drought has revealed a once-submerged village in northern Portugal.

Vilarinho das Furnas was submerged 35 years ago by rising dam waters, but the water level has sunk recently as a drought grips about 75 percent of the country.

Curious visitors and many former residents have traveled to the village, about 400 kilometres northeast of Lisbon, to wander among the remains of houses, many of which have lost their roofs.

The winter its normally the wet season but much of Portugal has recorded its driest January for decades, which has left farmers with starving livestock and ruined crops.

Meanwhile, it’s snowing in Florence, Italy

There’s been some studies arguing that global warming might in fact cause a small ice age of sorts, or even the real deal. Something to do with melting nortern ice caps, especially in Greenland and North Canada, with the resulting flow of fresh water in the North Atlantic being able to ‘shut down’ the Gulf Stream. You can read a lot of articles about it if you Google ‘global warming’ and “ice age” together.

Here in Portugal it’s dry alright, but it’s happened before, in the early 90s we had 5 straight years of almost no rain – several rivers dried out so completely people were having picnics in the riverbeds just for kicks. The thing this year is that it’s bitterly cold. I’ve never seen ice covering the streets in Lisbon in my entire life, but it happened a couple of days ago, and it didn’t melt the whole day – never heard of here!

A friend of mine in Milan, Italy, sent me several short movies of snow there, which I think it’s also slightly unusual.

So there you are, it may be a new Ice Age starting… We’ll only know a dew years from now…

What I find funny, in a sinister sort of way, is that nobody seems to be concerned about saving water! Especially public services, gardens and the like, where instead of planting native species that don’t require much water to stay green, imported ones are chosen, just because stupid politicians think that’s what the tourists like…. Lakes of water go into watering them, for pretty much no good reason… But hey, I’m a radical… This is not America…

You have people trying to prove something because they don’t create anything. There is no creator or spark of divinity for these folks. I guess talking about global warming is as good as talking about anything else. Your prediction should be on the mark. As a matter of science, global climate change deserves attention. I don’t believe that this subject should be limited to warming. Global warming seems to have a larger following. I’ve been concerned about global cooling, but that’s just me. It is 29.1 degrees F here now and they are saying it will be getting cooler. I guess God has his own plans. If it’s snowing, go build snowmen and snowwomen. When they melt, you won’t need to bury them. Some people want to bury the truth, so go figure. I love talking about the weather and making coffee with the snow.

Be cool John, there are plenty of hot heads out there. Try building your own city http://www.citycreator.com/ There is one here at City Creator with snow and a truck, when I last checked. http://www.citycreator.com/build.city?city=2
Let it snow, let it snow. Have fun!

  3. Jim says:

They have ice up in New York and the Tully Ice Harvest.

  4. Thomas says:

Jim, WTF are you babbling about? How does belief in a creator have anything whatsoever to do with weather, global warming or the price of tea in China? It doesn’t.
