A_PS_TheComingPersecution Another unique Christian perspective. I love rantings.

Perhaps several years ago, many Christians would not give heed to such a message as this. Only in recent months are many Christians suddenly waking up to the sobering reality that we may be facing end time persecution in our nation as never before. Terrorist events never thought possible to occur on our soil have happened. And now, on the wings of public outcry over the twin tragedies of September 11, 2001, draconian laws are being raced through Congress, supposedly in the effort to help curb terrorism, but suspiciously beginning to sound as if we are slowly being turned into a police state.

Slowly? It’s been a police state for years. Come on.

  1. Ima Fish says:

I don’t know what Christians would be so upset about. Obviously whatever happens is all a part of God mysterious plan. Who are we to disagree with it?! I for one welcome our new police state overlords!

  2. Andrew says:

I read this link, and would like to point out a flaw in the logic.

When discussing “potential terrorists” we must remember that not all terrorists are Muslim. Timothy McVeigh is an example of that. Also people who have blown up abortion clinics and killed doctors in the US are right wing Christians.

Though I do find it completely far fetched that Canada is building prison camps for Christians, and not one person has ever produced a picture or any kind of proof of this.

Hell they couldnt keep prisoner abuse in a locked prison in the desert 1/2 a world away, secret. How could they keep construction secret?

    Andrew

  3. N says:

“Canada is building prison camps for Christians”

Um, not where I’m from. (Which would be Canada). A more rediculous statement I haven’t heard in a long time. I know a heck of a lot of Christian folk up here, and I don’t really think we’re likely to round up _half_ of our population.

(But hey, I’m not Christian, so I’m not worried 😉

  4. T.C. Moore says:

The law isn’t about lying to generic bureaucrats or federal officials. It criminalizes lying to law enforcement, namely the FBI.

You can always plead the 5th. So there’s your out. You _can_ avoid jail. Or just not talk to them at all.

While lying to law enforcement makes for interesting episodes of NYPD Blue, the law against it makes their job just a little bit easier.
And they only prosecute people for it when they can’t get them on the original charge. That’s the scandal. Martha Stewart _was_ singled out because of her celebrity.

The bottom line is, if you’re guilty (or you may be perceived that way ;-), don’t talk to the FBI.

I’d like to hear some real support for this “police state” crap. You still have to be convicted in a court of law. And they only look for some other crime to pin on you if they know you are guilty (knock on wood). Otherwise, Capone and many others would have gone free. To do everything “by the book” would be a huge reward for the guilty, while the current real risk for the innocent individual is quite small.

  5. John C. Dvorak says:

You’re making the argument for me. Capone had to go to jail for a bookkeeping error. As for the police state in general I’m reminded of the time I took my family to South Africa during the period where Mandela is first running for office. Wild time. We were there for two weeks and I counted all the police I saw. Total: One. If I drive from Berkeley to San Francisco I will see at least 4 on the drive. ONE WAY! Just count the number of police you see on a day-to-day basis and compare it to what you see in other parts of the world. No comparison. And these are not cops walking the streets and getting involved. That would be policing. When a cop pulls you over do you know his name? Of course not. What we have is a classic anonymous police state. They are patrolling looking for violations for their monthly stats. “You, whoever you are, have broken the rule! No excuses!” I’m not saying this is Nazi Germany, if that’s what you imply. But then again, how many of us know what that was really like? Who even wants to discuss speed trap shakedowns all over the country. There is a website dedicated to it. This much I will say, all this results in nutballs freaking out and actually believing there are internment camps in Canada. I have much wackier stuff than this post.

If it’s not a police state go to the airport and joke about bombs. Hey, it’s a joke. Go do it. You have a first amendment right to joke, don’t you? And i don’t want to equate that to yelling fire in a theater. You can indeed joke about fires in the theater. I’m not saying to YELL “BOMB!” in the airport. Just joke about it, lightly and casually. Call me in ten years.

I’ve gotten to know (and live among) both Right Wing Christians and Radical (aka Right Wing) Muslims. These two groups have more in common than they probably realize.

One VERY COMMON theme in both groups is that there is a concerted effort to do away with their beliefs and lifestyle.

  7. John C. Dvorak says:

There is no difference. It is indeed a salute to the devil. Even when they claim it’s about football. 🙂

  8. david says:

Being that we live in a country where we are innocent until proven guilty, unless we can prove Bush *means* it to be the sign of the devil then we can only interpret it within our own cultural significance. The buddhist in Asian countries use the swastika in their temples but it doesn’t necessarily mean they are Nazis. However, being that the “salute to the cows” *could* be misinterpreted I really can’t understand why the most powerful man in the Universe who holds his most influential philosopher to be Jesus Christ would risk being seeing as a devil’s agent.

  9. Hank C says:

As for Bush’s hand gesture … I did a little research. The Norwegians aren’t idiots — the index and pinkie thing IS the Satanic salute.

The exact same hand gesture is also a gesture for the Texas Longhorns. While the Longhorn gesture is probably older, the Satanic Salute is much wider known — even in Europle obviously.

I suppose this is another case of Bush’s faulty intellegence… somebody should have told him that this would be interpreted by millions as a gesture of praise to Satan. (and shockingly few in Euripe would be surprised!)

  10. Thomas says:

    >> the “satanic salute.”

Whatever that is or means. If we are all about freedom of religion then why should it matter whether the President is a Satanist or not? Of course, we all know the answer. It is ok to be political and religious as long as that religion is Judaism, Muslim or Christianity.

The people that thought this was Satanic should perhaps stay tuned to college sports a bit more.

  11. Hank C says:

    >> unless we can prove Bush *means* it to be the sign of the devil then we can only interpret it within our own cultural significance.

I can think of a hand gesture that rarely gets mis-interpreted.

    >> The people that thought this was Satanic should perhaps stay tuned to college sports a bit more.

Yeah, right, like the Norwegians are going to watch Texas football.

    >> Just were does one learn the Satanic salute?

I’ve seen it at concerts going back to about 20 years ago, I think. I saw on one website that the “salute to the cows” goes back about 45 years.

As for me… I’m finally enjoying a Bush “scandal” that is relatively harmless. His other scandals are so deadly and deeply tragic.

  12. K B says:

Off topic (as usual): Is that picture of a young Meredith Baxter?

  13. T.C. Moore says:

Oh, jeez, John, you know Capone went to jail for tax evasion. You make it sound like the Financial Account Standards Board threw him in jail for not deducting his employee’s stock option grants as current expenses. (Oh wait, that’s still legal.)

When I think of a “police state”, I think of corrupt or crazy officials pulling you over, asking for your “papers”, and doing whatever they want. If the police misbehave in this country, they usually get in deep shit, the thin blue line notwithstanding.

Those 4 cops on the roads are out enforcing the law. Too keep your kids safe from crazy speeders. And to arrest anyone waving automatic weapons at you. (“Where are the cops to throw these guys in jail?” he demanded.) Why do you need to know their name, and what do you have to be afraid of? The innocent don’t have anything to fear from the police, and all the talk about a police state and racist cops just makes people nervous and act guilty, which will get you the third degree. Following up on suspicious activity is their job and what they are trained to do.

We do not live in a police state. We live in a state with police. Something the Iraqis would dearly love right now.

  14. Bron says:

    thanks
