ReliefWeb Homepage — International relief website. Im not sure it will do any good, but this site seems to have some handle on International donations for disaster charity. There is still concern that money targeted for a problem actually is used correctly. Much money donated for 9-11 relief was never used for 9-11 relief, for example. This seems like a good resource.

  1. Thanks for that. I blindly set up a link to the Red Cross in my opening page. It has now changed to ReliefWeb.

  2. T.C. Moore says:

I searched for Disaster Relief after the 26th, and one of the
    most popular results was

    DisasterRelief.org

which I visited around 12/30-31. At that time, and still NOW,
it does not mention the tsunami! Even the ticker tape at the top
with the “latest” stories doesn’t mention it.

What the hell kind of website is this? There ought to be a law.

Meanwhile, all donations to an NGO or humanitarian organization will go toward funding the overall organization. A percentage of one’s pledge will go toward administrative and fundraising expenses. You can only hope they will notice the correlation with the current disaster and spend the money accordingly. But tying restrictions or expectations to your donation can severely limit its usefulness. Just ask USAID about humanitarian assistance funds that can only be spent on grain from the US mid-west (or EU farmers, etc).
