Here is an introduction to newcomers regarding blog layout and design. I have had one too many readers read a blockquote thinking that it was something I wrote. I thought it was about time someone wrote an introduction explaining the blog format for newcomers. Please link to this essay freely.

  1. T.C. Moore says:

Where do you get all your funny graphics that aren’t from the primary link? I get the impression you catalog cool pictures and sources of images as a natural part of your surfing and research. In lieu of us doing that too, where are some good sources of images?

  2. John C. Dvorak says:

Most of them are derived from clever searches..BUT you are partly correct. I do have a cache of great pics that I hold back.

  3. TDavid says:

John – Good primer. Just curious, but do you ever approve any trackbacks? If you don’t, then maybe you should remove the text to allow them.

  4. Imafish says:

I’ve got a question about your blog. What happened to that story about the flea powder that was killing cats? Don’t tell me Dvorak Uncensored was censored?!

  5. John C. Dvorak says:

Oh, yeah..I meant to repost that..thanks..I’ll do it later today

  6. John C. Dvorak says:

As for trackbacks…I approve them once in a while. The problem is many of them show up as gibberish for some reason.

  7. Adrian says:

    hmmm… interesting…

You’d think that most of this would be fairly intuitive to most people…

Actually, forget that thought… I work in the computer field for a living… most people are clueless when it comes to computers and computer related stuff. Data semantics and stuff are lost on them. They use Excel when they should be using Access and vice versa. For some reason they don’t realize that a lot of what they see on the web (in terms of layout and such) pretty closely mirrors what they see in their local newspaper, but for some reason, they don’t recognize it on the screen.

    *sigh*

Well, I thought you did a pretty good job of explaining it. This can actually apply to many online sites, that are not blogs as well. After all, blogs are the personal version of a newspaper.

  8. Mike Voice says:

They use Excel when they should be using Access and vice versa.

It’s worse than I thought! I hoped it was only where I work. 🙂

  9. FlasheR! says:

    And some else, come here……

    The most interest!…
