CBC News: Spray may help slow spread of flu, SARS: study

WASHINGTON – Inhaling a simple saltwater spray could help prevent the spread of disease-causing germs, a small study suggests.

Doctors know that people sickened with illnesses ranging from influenza to chicken pox, tuberculosis and SARS spread germs in their exhaled particles.

Researchers studied 11 people, half of whom exhaled larger amounts of germs than the others. The team, which included scientists at two biotechnology firms, measured how many particles were released during a cough.

Odd that they only had 11 people in the “study”. 🙂

Interesting to see if the theory scales well, with a larger group. A simple, cheap aid in preventing the spread of potentially-lethal diseases.
