Ok, so Kerry is wrong for Devil worshippers too?

AxisofLogic/ Religion/World View

Continuing its practice of creating opposition-research websites, the Republican National Committee has some new offerings on the religion front, knocking John Kerry as being “wrong” for Catholics and for evangelicals. (So far, the RNC has held off from setting up sites implying Kerry is “wrong” for Buddhists, Hindus, Jews or Muslims. But stay tuned.)

Both sites throw the same charges at Kerry (most of the sites’ text is identical), and give the impression that the issues of most pressing concern to Catholic and evangelical voters are those pertaining to abortion and gay rights. And even there, the “evidence” against Kerry is pretty unimpressive.

Does Bush’s once-frequent use of the words evil and evildoers mean that his foreign policy is theologically driven?

I agree with Kerry that a person can be certain and wrong, and that “certainty sometimes can get you in trouble.” If by “certainty” Jon Meacham refers to a proud and stubborn refusal to engage with any differing views, I join him in rejecting it.

But I find his contrast between Bush’s “theological view” and Kerry’s “more historical, realpolitik view” too certain in its tone.

Nice graphic. I notice the holes in his hand have healed. It must make for a better TV presence ;->

I’m not sure I understand what you mean by Kerry’s “more historical, real politik view.”

Another place to mix religion and politics – and sarcasm – look no furhter than the Oregon Voter’s Guide, specifically for measure 36:
    http://tinyurl.com/545sz

The first three entries in support of the Constitutional amendment to limit marriage to: one man, one woman – are a hoot!

    An example:
    Measure 36Argument in Favor
    CULTURE WAR!

Traditional values are under attack, and sexual perverts are attempting to strain the definition of marriage far beyond what God has ordained. The Word of the Lord must be legislated as Oregon public policy.

In the Holy Bible, Saint Paul says that Christians should remain single and abstain from sex. The New Testament says that people should get married only if they are too weak-willed to abstain from sex:

“It is well for a man not to touch a woman…. It is well … to remain single as I do. But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to be aflame with passion.” (I Corinthians 7:1, 8-9)

Marriage is not sacred. Marriage is for wimps and sissies!

Oregon public policy should define marriage in accordance with divinely inspired Scripture. Therefore, marriage licenses should be granted only to those persons who have been certified by professional psychiatric examination to be too weak-willed to abstain from sex.

ROFL. Mike, you win the prize for finding the most insane (and scary) government document I’ve ever read. Like I’ve said all along, when it comes to religion and policies relating to religion, I understand why people vote Democrat.

  4. Ed Campbell says:

Mike — it certainly must be easy to get stupid amendments on the ballot in Oregon. Have you thought about starting an Oregon branch of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party?

Actually, having said that. I should see how hard it would be to do the same thing, here in Santa Fe.

  5. Mike Voice says:

    Ed,

it is a bit of work to get amendments on the ballot, but it only takes $500 to get loony comments added to the voter’s guide!
