The Classic Typewriter Page

oldie

The next great collectible. Here is a good site to learn about these old contraptions. :)

You have no idea how I long for the feel of my old IBM Selectric II typewriter. Would that someone would invent a computer keyboard that * really* feels the same. Most are downright spongy to the touch; but even the clickety-click keyboards don’t do justice. What I want is a keyboard with the same heft and tactile response as the cast-iron Selectric II.

I feel, however, that I am living in a world where no one understands what I am talking about. 🙁

It's silly that no company is interested in "feel" for typewriters. Anyplace you go, you can plug in a mouse and a keyboard and use the resident computer (almost anyplace: schools, libraries, most offices I visit).

Bless you, my son (Joe)…. 🙂

It looks like it doesn’t come cheap, but it would be worth it if it fulfills this profound need I have for a quality keyboard.

By the way, it mentions “Support for Dvorak Typists,” so I guess it will work with this blog. Maybe John will order one and tell us if it is any good. Maybe they would send him one free for testing, what with his being a friggin’ celebrity and all…. 🙂

  5. Constant Reader says:

Journalists who gave up on the Remington might look at
    http://bitchin100.com/remem_project.html
where they are resurrecting the venerable Tandy 100, 102, 200
Good keyboard, long life batteries and now enough room.
But a good keyboard on a manual doesn’t replace a good
fountain pen, though some of the new roller-balls write
well, but the ink runs in the bath.
