FADE TO BLACK. Here is a site highlighting some of the worst songs ever done. In this instance they were done by actors or even singers out of their genre. For example we hear Bing Crosby attempt to sing Hey Jude. Dreadful. You can just see the hidden hand of some executive dipshit behind each one of these efforts. “Yeah, yeah, this is what the kids want!” A Fav is Phyllis Diller singing I can’t Get no Satisfaction complete with jokes in the middle of the song. Geez.

You WILL cringe.

I once heard Buck Owens sing Bridge Over Troubled Water. Need I say more?

Dave Barry once did a “series” of colums– perhaps it was only 2– in which he challenged readers to guess his choice for worst song of all time. My *immediate* reaction was McArthur Park. (You remember it: “Someone left the cake out in the rain / I don’t think that I can take it / ‘Cause it took so long to bake it / And I may never have that recipe again…..”) Well, indeed, that turned out to be his choice as well. As I recall, he told his son the lyrics, and his son did not believe there had ever been such a song.

Why is there a photo of Chris Isaacs fronting the article [on occasion]? He’s not mentioned in it. Or is that a pic of his reaction to some of the renditions?

  3. jw says:

How about the classic horrible song – William Shatner singing (saying) “strawberry fields forever” or whatever that song was?

I must have repressed the details…
I can still hear his overly-dramatic ‘singing’ voice ‘narrating’ a song, though I can’t recall the words/title.

going to scrub out my brain again now.
