Not all the beautiful women at the 2006 Electronica Show were booth-babe eye candy. This charming lady at the Vicor booth turned out to be the sales administrator from their Munich office, and not only told me about the company’s advanced VI*Chip factorized power architecture, she whipped my ass in the telepresence racing rig they had set up at their booth!
Another big difference between a Euro show and an American show is that every booth had a kitchen and bar in it. The event is just too large (and busy) to leave the booth for client meetings and lunches, so everyone ate (and drank) at the booths. This was a blessing for me, as I didn’t leave the floor from open to close each day!
There were also booth parties at the cooler companies, with great food and drink and live music. The pic below is at the Fairchild Semiconductor booth. (The red numbers in the upper right corner show projected power savings using Fairchild devices.)
There were all kinds of cool vehicles at the show as well. Here’s an electric racing cart at the Infineon stand, and another cool electric car was at the Freescale Semiconductor booth. It had a simulated see-through internal-combustion engine with LEDs as spark plugs and such.
Of course, I had to go back to the Hofbrau house for more carbohydrate loading to prepare for the rigors of the next day. Here I am with Peter Rogerson of the Billings PR agency.

Fairchild was gone a while and came back, now they’re a major player again.
Fairchild has a plant about 4 miles from my house, and they’ve increased staff over the years.
