The Tesla Roadster, powered by more than 6,800 lithium-ion batteries, can go zero to 60 mph in about four seconds. Top speed: 130 mph. Cost between $85,000 and $120,000.

Here is the Tesla Motors website.

Should I won the lottery, I would put my money on these types of companies. They’re not arising a moment too soon.

I just hope them the most success and force other makers to follow their clean path.

  2. Xwing says:

Yep, if i had $100000, I’d go pick one up. As gas prices rise, it’s the only way to travel.

  3. Phillip says:

I’m sure the performance takes a hit when they’re required meet US safety standards. Add 1500 pounds and cut the performance in half.

My 1974 VW Beetle – approx 1800 pounds
My 2004 VW GTI – approx 3000 pounds

  4. ECA says:

    4,
thats alos the diff, of STEAL compared to Aluminium.

  5. ECA says:

ANd what would it take to add a 16-24hp generator…
to keep it charged, and running FARTHER.

  6. zybch says:

What ‘hot’ about this car? Does it have a macbook in there somewhere?

  7. bill says:

What you don’t realize is an electric motor has maximum power at 0 RPM… so the acceleration is awsome… I think I read once that Maseratti created an electric car with a motor in each wheel… it accelerated so fast they had to tone it down to keep from hurting people… So, electric power is fun… You can power it with anything you want as long as it is quick and fun to drive..

  8. AB CD says:

Looks cool. You realize that electric cars increase pollution right(unless you’re using nuclear power generation)?

  9. ECA says:

    yes,
I know.. Electric cars, CAN, be 60+ off the line. depends on the power of the motors. Have to cut the amount of quick charge in them to keep them from YANKING your neck threw the rear window.

I would LOVE, to take one racing, and put a sound system into the car, to make it SOUND like a regular motor. PINK slips are MINE.

  10. forrest says:

NICE! I wonder if I’d actually see one of these…

  11. Phillip says:

    ECA,

    I assume you meant STEEL.

My point is that once safety testing became common the 1800 pound car couldn’t survive. This car hasn’t had that experience yet.

–“But the company must first undergo rigorous government safety and environmental tests — a process whose complexity the founders admit they didn’t anticipate.”

I’d also like to mention that this car doesn’t have room for my girlfriend, her cat carrier, two suitcases, two bicycles, 3 cases of beer, a grill, etc. Really, what is the piont of getting somewhere fast if you can’t take all your stuff with you?

  12. Teyecoon says:

Would those be ‘C’ size batteries or ‘D’s?

  13. David Squires says:

of all these post I would like them to read the article by the site of the vehicle

electric is more efficient than any other energy supply for an automobile reducing pollution co2 plus many other enviromental harmfuls
    look it up
