Primary Target: Sears Tower.

Chicago tower on attack list – World – smh.com.au — You have to wonder how many random boneheads are floating around like this. I’d love to see their pictures — should be highly amusing.

US authorities have arrested seven people suspected of planning attacks on FBI offices and Chicago’s Sears Tower, the nation’s tallest building.

A law enforcement source said the suspects, mostly Americans and thought to be Muslims, were caught in a sting operation focused on a Miami warehouse. The suspects had thought they were dealing with al-Qaeda but had been infiltrated and tricked by a US Government informant.

“In the past couple of days the US Government has taken into custody seven people who were conspiring to conduct jihad in the United States,” the source said.

The source also said the suspects had been trying to buy weapons and other equipment needed to carry out attacks.

Of course, they didn’t have any weapons. I believe the plot was really to do a scrum (rugby term) and knock it over.

  2. Gary Marks says:

I don’t mean to tell Gonzales how to do his job, but he needs to claim that they only uncovered this plot because of their secret warrentless phone surveillance. That’s the way to deflate this issue for the upcoming elections. I guess Gonzales hasn’t talked to Karl Rove yet on this matter.

  3. GregAllen says:

Oh… please. Don’t tell me this yet another bogus terrorist threat caused by the over zealous bungling of this administration.

Having spent half my life living and working in poor, usually Black American, communities — I don’t know whether to chuckle over the amount of taxpayer dollars wasted on setting up this “event” — or laugh at the poor Christian street hustlers who thought they had a mark who was going to feed them bucks. And he turned out to be a provocateur.

Oh yeah — in case you haven’t seen the latest local news from Liberty City, these dudes belong to a Christian sect. No need for Muslim organizations to concern themselves over anything more than the usual redneck idiots who need little or no excuse to act stupid.

Liberty City has a long history of this — but, then, so does any other really poor community in America — Black, Latino, whatever. There’s always some religious nutcase who can gather a small crowd — train folks in self-defense — and threaten to bring down the Man.

Sometimes they’re a danger to more than themselves. Hopefully, folks in the community deal with that.

Sometimes, they write “revelations” and get government grants. Like the Blackstone Rangers.

#3 GregAllen, not bogus, just underhyped for the moment. Don’t worry, he’ll get up to speed 😉

  6. Max Bell says:

Somehow, I can’t help but suspect that most self-respecting terrorists would avoid anyone this stupid even if they were desparate.

Certainly these dolts left no one a choice but to remove them from the general population. Expensive waste of law enforcement, though.

  7. Johnny-Cakes says:

Sorry, not to be a stickler…but the Sears Tower is in fact the WORLDS tallest building. NOT the Petronas Towers or Taipei tower. It’s very simple…you stand on the top floor of the Sears Tower and you’ll be looking DOWN on the top floors of the other 2.

Don’t give me this crap about spires…can a person stand on the top of the spires? No? Nuff said….

  8. Eric Phillips says:

Terroists? In the US? I thought we were fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them over here? WTF!

  9. Tim Harris says:

If this were a true threat, based on true connections to whomever, you won’t be hearing about it in the propogandoids. Gotta love the media. They’ll sell out for anything !!!

  10. Jeremy says:

    Idiots

  11. James, age 14 says:

They were doing paramilitay training in the Miami warehouse and tried to buy some ammonia nitrate. Sounds real to me!

  12. doug says:

yes, they are idiots. but idiots are dangerous – McVeigh was an idiot, too.

  13. Jon Swift says:

I completely agree that these men were a menace. Anyone who remembers Madonna wannabes of the 1980s knows that wannabes can be just as dangerous as the real thing.

  14. Mr. H. Fusion says:

I have yet to see any mention that their “Al Qaeda” liason was an FBI informant. Apparently the guy didn’t wear a recording device. So how much of this “sting” is coerced or self invented is hard to tell, at this time. I have the feeling that all the noise will end up being little more then a fart in the wind.

The whole thing is too stupid to be taken seriously. The Sears Tower is not the Murrow Building in Oklahoma. The only way anyone would seriously damage the building would be to set off the explosive internally, not very likely with the current security.
