Either I don’t comprehend the level of esoterica required by iPod owners — we only have two in the extended family — or it’s simply possible to take damned near anything and afix a plug attachment and sell it to iPod owners.

If you want to take it in the crapper, why not just wear the earbuds? Maybe I could see a device for listening during a long soak in a tub, but made for the toilet? So many resources wasted on pure junk.
