  4. Jägermeister says:

So true. People allow themselves to get fucked by the Apple/telco cartel… the modern era drug dealers.

  5. The Man says:

I don’t get it it’s still cheaper over two years then most smart phones an only about $60 more over two years then the iphone 1.0.

It is a funny video but if you can’t afford a smart phone you shouldn’t buy one… I guess that goes for everything.

  6. pjakobs says:

“Generation iPhone” will become synonymous for “those who were so busy being happy looking at the world through a 3.5in screen, they didn’t even notice they were fucked 3 times over”

I wish I had bought Apple shares, then I could be laughing even more heartily at the Apple Fans.

Buy Apple stock, use the money you make to buy more iphones.

    Where will this madness end?

iPhone 5G 3.0!!!! Have you seen it? WOW!

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

It is still worth every penny in my mind…

  8. JimR says:

pjjacobs, I’m not promoting the stock here, but there’s currently a 30% potential upside to AAPL over the next year according to analysts. Why would you consider them a lost opportunity?

Also, all Apple fans aren’t all alike. I currently have 3 desktop Macs, bought them used, and have been using Macs for 25 years. On the other hand, they are the inly things Apple that I own. IMO, cell phones in general have become an addiction to the detriment of society. I’ve never owned one, and probably never will.

  9. chuck says:

Dammit, I bought a new car last year, and now the #$%! manufacturer has come out with a new model, with better options!! And to make it worse, the dealer is selling off last year’s model for $thousands less than I paid!!

Why can’t they just stop improving technology?
The 5GB iPod that Apple came out with in 2001 was perfect in every way. They should have just stopped there.

I wouldn’t short Apple but, man, all it takes is one small misstep in the tech sector these days to have you stock tank for 1-2 quarters. It’s just way too risky, along with the rest of the sector right now.

Apple is doing fine, but it’s just going to be in a bad group for a year or two at least. Look at Intel, Cisco, Applied Materials, Microsoft, Dell, Texas Instruments, Oracle, etc. IBM is doing OK but that’s because they keep projecting lower so the street isn’t killing them when their results are OK.

The mobile world isn’t any better with free falls from Nokia, and the like. RIM has done OK this year, but now there is stock is going south because they aren’t doubling up on the quarter.

If you believe in Apple and buy their stock, that’s good. However I think they’ll be kicked around like the rest so I can’t see any upside.

  11. JimR says:

Prudence is always good QB. Buying at any time is gambling. One rule of thumb is that if everyone is buying and excitement is the atmosphere… sell and run. Also, “Sell in May, then stay away.” There’s all kinds of seemingly irrational rules in gambling on stock that are true. On the other hand, Apple isn’t like those other conservative old men you mentioned… at least not yet. In the twilight years there’s stability, but even companies eventually die of old age.

  12. QB says:

I hope you’re right – I make my salary in the tech sector. Google and Amazon are blowing anyone’s socks off these days either. Yahoo is sliding and their stock is unpredictable with MSFT and Icahn sticking their nose in.

As I say I wouldn’t short Apple, Google, or Cisco – but investors, especially the fund managers, tend to lump them together in a sector. In the long term they are good investments but I think you’ll make more money from Wallmart this year. Sad.

  13. Brian says:

5-No it’s not cheaper than most smart phones. It’s actually more expensive. The data plans are the same price and you can pick up blackberries, blackjacks, or palms for less money.

Quit being an apple shill and actually make a factual post next time.

And to see the number of people buying these ridiculous overpriced apple products makes me laugh. Their hardware is wildly overpriced, underperforming, and yet people call them good?

Please tell me why the iPhone 2.0 cannot do basic functions a free phone can do (i.e. MMS?) Tell me why it can’t do true GPS navigation?

These things are hardly revolutionary…the only thing revolutionary is the mindlessness to which people get down on their knees and slurp steve jobs.

Wow you really take your phone, um, viscerally. Anyway, the thing that is revolutionary about Apple is that they actually can market their products. You can argue about the relative merits of say OSX vs Vista but considering that most of their competitors outspend them in marketing (MS’s true costs including customer events is close to $5 bn) the brand recognition and loyalty is remarkable.

Apple is truly amazing at this, in the same way that Oprah and the Beatles and Virgin and Nike are good at this.

P.S. Before you knock the Beatles they recently passed 1 billion records sold. Now that’s an enduring brand.

  17. Shenzhov says:

A perfect example of poor white trash, jealous of people who spend there own money on cool, user friendly technology. They are too poor to get out of their current cell contract to buy an iPhone because they piss their money away on beer and pot.
So they have to make themselves feel important by ridiculing people who spend their money the way they want.

@#9 Good example. Far be it from companies to innovate and update products. You see this in people whining about Microsoft Vista. Vista won’t run on their 286 with 640k of memory so it’s Microsoft’s fault for making an updated product. Not that I’m a Vista fan or Microsoft fan by any means mind you.

  18. >>A perfect example of poor white trash

A perfect example of the oy!phone purchaser. Thanks for that.

Some people really like to put their bucks where the mouth is.

I used to be a regular little drummer boy for Apple…I still have my MacLC, my PowerMac7100 and my iBook 12″ 500.And I’m not counting the dozen or so Macs I had in my own company…And pretty much used to make some fun of the PC users too. But over time you start to get older, and hopefully, wiser, and start seeing thing as they are. You either enjoy living in this marketing nirvana that apple is, or you don’t. I don’t. And it’s not the money. It’s just that some things cost more than they’re worth.

  20. bac says:

why doesn’t Apple make the iPhone into a video phone? Why hasn’t anyone done a video cell phone yet?

  21. QB says:

    You mean like Dick Tracy?

  22. bac says:

    yes, like dick tracy.

  23. deowll says:

The cost of the service plan for a Dick Tracy wrist phone is going to be kind of outragious besides I don’t want to be seen by everyone that I talk to for the best of reasons. Nobody should have to look at a 58 year old man in his boxer shorts.

  24. Shenzhov says:

@18 You make it too easy.

@19 I rest assured I’m older than you and you can spend much more money on a windows machine than a mac or other cell phones. That Razer was 500 bucks when it came out.

@ 20 I actually did not buy a 3G iPhone I have a first gen that’s just fine and I’d never stand in line. People stand in line for movie tickets, days in advance…or concert tickets. So if some people have a good time waiting at the apple stores, so be it.

The problem isn’t that Mac users are fan boys, or that they are cult members or any of that crap. They just love the products because they are great and easy to use. The other cell phone owners or computer owners don’t get it because their hardware just sucks and it’s nothing to get excited about.

Now all go defrag your hard drives.

  25. Carcarius says:

    LOL … funny

Bingo! The RAZR from Motorola. If there is a company that produces the crappiest phones, Motorola is. And once bitten I was very dismissal of motorola, just when the RAZR came out. A friend of mine spent the bucks and one year later I inherited the damn phone. It was unusable to the point neither me nor my wife care to use it and just returned to our older quirky crapy phones. This guy now has an iPhone. ‘nough said.

Gotta go now, there’s BSODs all around me and none of the drives finished defragging. Also there’s a virus outbreak and I’m sure I’ve lost all of my data. But you know how computers are…

  27. The Man says:

Pedro the Mac os does defrag on the fly and runs maintenance scripts while you sleep or in the background. So in a way you don’t have to do anything to bring back performance.
