• Yahoo working on buying AOL.
  • Pioneer makes 400 GB blu-ray disc. Nice.
  • TSA may stop making everyone remove their laptops. But some people may have their laptops confiscated or the files looked into.
  • Linux going nowhere?
  • WiMAX getting some tests finally. Mobile WiMAX too.
  • CRM becoming a huge market. Hooray.

    AARRGGGHHH!!

First Microsoft wanted Yahoo, now Yahoo wants AOL!

Has the tech world gone INSANE?

What in the world does AOL have that anyone would pay money for?

If the Linux fanbois should get a cue from the Star Wars fanbois: WE DON’T NEED TO KNOW THE NAME OF EACH STAR DESTROYER IN RETURN OF THE JEDI.

    A gullible customer base.

  4. Gill Bates says:

I’d break Yahoo up into a few smaller units (mobile, search, ads, video etc…) Then sell off some of the stuff not making money to somebody who could use it. Smash it up and see what it becomes. Stanford Group analyst Clayton Moran estimated Yahoo’s breakup value at $20 to $24 per share, well below the $33 that Microsoft offered. That means MS is screwing itself to get more DOJ look-see hassle all for a premium price. “The Chinese Internet market is not as mature as the U.S., so for another $1 billion bet, who’s to say Yahoo! can’t own the YouTube of China,” They still can. There’s the little problem of the government pulling the plug at random on video, but that’s the risk. Yahoo puts MS into the Chinese video market, so it seems. MS is risking it all (Yahoo!) on being the YouTube of China. If it doesn’t work, Yahoo Division of MS (YooTube) gets sold, maybe to the Chinese. MS sells for more than they paid or at a loss. So what! Being the YouTube of China is too risky for Yahoo or Microsoft alone.

    Crazy enough to work?

  6. Linux is on desktops, just they are counted as Windows… For last decade department where I work have purchased more than thousand machines. At the lowest price and from major manufacturer: read “with Windows”. Less than ten out of thousand+ ever ran Windows. All were Linux-ized from day one, for general desktop use. I’d bet that there are many such stories out there. Also, old machines. In my household there are 4 old machines and two new. One out of six runs Windows… All were purchased with Windows… Who counts that? My estimate is at at least 10% if not more.

If the TSA had problems with MacBook Air then they would suffer a heart attack with the Voodoo Envy 133. Configuration page just went live:

In other tech news (we could always use more of that), has anyone heard any scuttlebutt on the tamarin virtual machine?

I’ve heard a few rumors but nothing tangible yet.

  9. QB says:

#9 I agree. I think Voodoo is going the pretty route with very few options. I think when you’ve got a small thin case you don’t have a lot of options.

Overall very nice package. Underpowered and overpriced. That means they’ll sell a ton.
