The advert has upset Muslims because dogs are considered ritually unclean and has sparked such anger that some shopkeepers in Dundee have refused to display the advert.
Dundee councillor Mohammed Asif said: ‘My concern was that it’s not welcomed by all communities, with the dog on the cards.
‘It was probably a waste of resources going to these communities.
‘They the police should have understood. Since then, the police have explained that it was an oversight on their part, and that if they’d seen it was going to cause upset they wouldn’t have done it.’
Councillor Asif, who is a member of the Tayside Joint Police Board, said that the force had a diversity adviser and was generally very aware of such issues.
He raised the matter with Mr Vine at a meeting of the board.

Firstly, when this story was investigated it turns out only two people complained. In addition, if anybody bothered to check, they would have found that dogs are not unclean to a muslim, only their saliva.

Actually, dogs and humans mouths are both filthy. Each just have different bacteria. Bacteria in a dog’s mouth is acceptable to its system, and bacteria in our mouths are acceptable to ours. Your body is not used to the bacteria in your dog or cat’s mouth, which is why you may get an infection if your dog licks your wounds, but licking its own wounds likely won’t result in infection.
Also, dogs have enzymes in their mouths that specifically deal with things that end up in dogs mouths, while humans have different enzymes to deal with things we typically put in our mouths.
On the subject of someone being offended by a dog sitting in a hat… seriously?! C’mon! You can’t do everything in life without offending someone, and people of all races, religions, and cultures do things without considering every possible combination of those and who it might offend. Honestly, who the hell would have expected someone to be offended by a puppy? Like Old Geezer said, only two people complained, and it isn’t the dog sitting in the hat that’s offensive, it’s their saliva. The picture doesn’t show the dog licking the hat, FFS. Has the world become so PC and sue-happy that people can’t just say a simple ‘we’re sorry that offended you’ and ‘thanks for calling’ and be done with it? Why does this type of BS have to be news?
PC is ruining the world, and people need to toughen up a bit and stop being such PC pussies. That said, I think reasonable care should be taken not to offend the majority of people in your scope of distribution, and being completely anti-PC is just stupid too.

Sure its OK to be polite and respect your neigbour and all that, but when some body in another country starts telling you what you can’t do in your own country and then you apoligize for it, WTF is that all about?
