Britain’s most senior judge reopened one of the most highly charged debates in Britain last night when he said he was willing to see sharia law operate in the country, so long as it did not conflict with the laws of England and Wales, or lead to the imposition of severe physical punishments…
Phillips insisted last night there was “widespread misunderstanding” of the nature of sharia law, and argued: “There is no reason why sharia principles, or any other religious code, should not be the basis for mediation or other forms of alternative dispute resolution [with the understanding] … that any sanctions for a failure to comply with the agreed terms of mediation would be drawn from the Laws of England and Wales.”
He also suggested sharia principles should be applied to marriage arrangements…
“So a Muslim woman who divorced according to Sharia principles would be free to marry again, but not if she only went to a civil court.

Nations with judges appointed on the basis of their commitment to politics probably get what they deserve. The man is a reactionary and a dunce.
Its good to see England is well on its way to becoming a Muslim state.
And the same thing is happening here. Look at the Fed judges and even members of SCOTUS who are citing European or other international precedent.
Interesting concept. In America, parties to a dispute can submit to binding arbitration per any set of rules they wish. No different than what this judge says.
“Still” a society that fractures along multi-cultural lines, religious, language, (whatelse?–food?) will not stand. Its a big drawback to recognizing minority rights, the possibility that society gets fractured.

The British gov. has been working on terminating the British as an ethnic group, culture, world power, and everything else for about a hundred years now. It’s just a matter of time and some other group will take over the country.
Sharia law is either in effect or it isn’t. If it is this guy is out of government and so is everyone not a Muslim.

Under Sharia Law, if a man who wants to divorce his wife, all he has to do is say:
“I now divorce you!”

I think it has to be said 3 times, and then they are automatically divorced…
If a woman wants to divorce her husband, it’s a different story…. The English Chief Justice probably wanted to divorce his wife…

There is a mood in legal circles for arbitration and mediation. What the Judge here is suggesting is maybe some aspects of Sharia law could be incorporated into mediation for civil matters, BUT would still be subject to the law of the land.
