I bet these will be used. I feel safer already. Perhaps I should vote Republican so I can keep it that way.

Administration Set to Use New Spy Program in U.S.

The Bush administration said yesterday that it plans to start using the nation’s most advanced spy technology for domestic purposes soon, rebuffing challenges by House Democrats over the idea’s legal authority.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said his department will activate his department’s new domestic satellite surveillance office in stages, starting as soon as possible with traditional scientific and homeland security activities — such as tracking hurricane damage, monitoring climate change and creating terrain maps.

Sophisticated overhead sensor data will be used for law enforcement once privacy and civil rights concerns are resolved, he said. The department has previously said the program will not intercept communications.

“There is no basis to suggest that this process is in any way insufficient to protect the privacy and civil liberties of Americans,” Chertoff wrote to Reps.

Riiiiight…

    “Watch out for the Republicans!!!!”

Back when England was still hanging people for picking pockets, the place you were most likely to get your pocket picked was at a public hanging.

“Look at him up there! Don’t watch the (Democrat) picking your pocket!”

Bush just keeps on sticking his junk in our faces. I guess this crap will continue until he’s gone.

The time to panic is when you have to send in a sort of flight plan to drive home from work….

The problem, as I see it, with the “if you have nothing to hide” argument, is that an over-zealous prosecutor can make your life miserable over about anything.

Someone who stops at a local drug store every night after work, for example, to buy an out-of-town newspaper, is casing the place for a robbery, or working with the staff to get illegal drugs…. They can’t prove it, but it could be a little expensive to disprove….

I don’t think it’s just the Republicans (or just the Democrats). “Agencies” tend to like this sort of capability.

People won’t stand for this. Ever.

Nice try, fuckers.I’m packing my bags for Mexico…

Nice government you have there and I’m glad I can hate them from afar. Bush’s trial (and his puppet masters) will expose so many other contraventions that people around the world will be astounded.

  6. MikeN says:

Wow, this comes from voting for republicans? Wasn’t Al Gore pushing for a clipper chip?
And didn’t all the people on this blog(except one) cheer when satellites were used to help find a missing person last year? Hypocrites..

  7. elitist snob says:

what a waste of my tax dollers. Just call Google?

  8. Dallas says:

#6 Get your facts right, the Clipper chip was meant to ENCRYPT information for citizens and business. Gore was enable a government back door through means within the constitution Today there is nothing to encrypt information. Contrast that with the policy of your corrupt republican dictator.
Shameful you elected such a vile government that will permanently take away our freedoms FOREVER. Like the party sheep, you dismiss all this valid concern as mere childish behavior. You make me sick.

  9. Bil says:

Remote sensing is in use today. What are you trying to hide? Bring on the ‘Predator’ drones! Those helicopters prowling above LA aren’t just looking for speeders.
