Yes, it’s apparently true. One of the classics of the silver screen is going to be remade. The horror… The horror…
All I can say is George Clooney better be in this one, too!

When are they going to do “Attack of the Kumquats?”
Far more interesting than this remake is who is making it.
I’m not a big fan (or detractor) of Ask A Ninja, but I am interested to see if these guys can make something interesting from the material. Culling the web for talent is risky, but no riskier than any other place.
It wouldn’t surprise me that tomatoes could be killers !!! What with dangerous pesticides or fertilizers or genetic engineering, tomatoes may not be fit for human consumption, and all without a peep from mega-agri-business !!!
One more fan of the original. Still, I’ll wait to download this one. Remaking – cartoons, comics, sitcoms, classic films, is it me or is there a total lack of interest in getting good original screenplays? I mean I’m sure if they’d stop worrying about turning a huge profit and started taking some risks and making some art they could get us back into the theatres. Yeah sure, it’s the pirates that are killing the industry, not those lousy money grubbing studio execs.
Whoa – Deja Vu!
Good Sam Jackson flick.
“I’ve had enough of these mother fuc*ing tomatoes in the mother fuc*ing town!”

If you want to see more good, original films, then start buying tickets for good, original films.
The reality is that since the dawn of time, humans have been adapting fiction over and over again in various media.
It’s all storytelling, and nothing more. Thousands of years ago, it was the village shaman handing down an oral tradition of history or education, even news, in the form of stories and allegories around a fire.
The director today is nothing more than the shaman and he/she has the same job, only with more sophisticated tools.
Stories are just collections of themes and concepts from our collective experience, and always cross familiar ground. There just isn’t very much originality, except in how we arrange the common elements of fiction. Whether we are talking about a comic book adaptation of Batman, or characters invented of whole cloth by a screenwriter, we are still looking at unoriginal material. The originality is in the telling.
The original is perfect – no need to remake this one.
#8 – Peter,
I’m with you. When the original is great, no need for a remake. Would you please pass the ketchup? Aaarrrgggghhhhh!!!!
I loved the original. Ah yes, between that and the Rocky Horror Picture Show, more than a few plants went up in smoke. Great memories of a youth well spent.
Actually, Clooney was in the sequel, Return of the Killer Tomatoes.
