Ah yes, this validates the theory that, “In space, no one can hear you scream”.
#1–or in this case, urinate.
So every time they have empty the solid waste tank, a multi-million $$$ supply ship is destroyed.
Excellent video, it explains quite clearly and with some humor how a very serious problem has been solved in the Shuttle and the ISS. Unfortunately, the astronauts aboard Apollo 2.0… I mean Orion, spacecrafts, will not have one! They’ll become, in the truest sense, diapernauts… Just imagine how bad it can be, days or even weeks, without a proper toilet… Yuk! Argh! Once again, long live the Space Shuttle. NASA would do well in developing the concept, instead of retreating to the stone age as it’s doing now.
#3, usually those ships are Russian Progress ships (so it’s rubles, not dollars ;), which are designed to send consumables to the ISS and bring down trash, burning up in the atmosphere. They stay attached to the ISS for some time, and they only send them down when they’re full of s&%=! I think they can take quite a bit of stuff inside. And it has to be sent down, otherwise you’d have a whole mess of organic detritus floating around the same orbit of the ISS and the Space Shuttles… You don’t want that 🙂

I think there’s no tunes. The soundtrack is the voices of the rest of the crew talking, the only separation between the toilet and the rest of the Shuttle is just one curtain… Maybe the astronauts whistle while they do it… 😀

I always thought that doing “it” was the other it. Same plumbing, but not on the space hardware.
