Life was so much better in slow motion.
Obviously before the quake.
Imagine San Fran without parking meters!
That was as way cool video. Wow. 1906!
I didn’t know there were so many cars in 1906.
No lie. This is a LOT like China today, except China’s a lot faster and replace the horses with scooter.
A lot of public transportation too. And useful. No waiting 40 minutes between buses.
All that and you can’t go wrong with Air!
Air indeed.
And San Fran is not too shabby either…
Love how daring people are, taunting the Cable cars, cutting in front of them at the last min. horses walking in front. Did not see anyone without a hat, well maybe the manikin in the window, but hey 🙂
A ride down Market St. pre-traffic control. No lights, no stop signs, no lanes.
Great video! The camera must have been a very strange site (they were huge at that time) and I think it’s cool watching all the peoples reactions as it slowly drives by.
Gawd! Casual wear must a been pretty warm in those days.
Funny, it looks so much more clean back then.
And a lot less wierdos!
The music is in B minor & plays the progression
I, iii, IV, V
I, iii, IV, V
I, iii, IV, V
ad infinitum. Well done all around.
My 91-year old mom will enjoy it. Was somewhat ahead of her time though (1918).
It’s a fake…I saw a guy talking on a iPhone…thats for Adam Curry.
They must have recorded from a cable car/trolley. Somebody did a good job of getting it to run at the right speed. Because they used fewer frames when run in modern projectors people look to be moving double speed in a jerky manner.
Somebody was doing a good job removing the horse apples.
Very few women and some of the men were doing some very risky things. I find it hard to believe that many people were out in the middle of the streets or running while hanging on to the backs of cars, etc.
There is something about the music that goes so well with the video. A simpler time indeed…
It’s very obvious that road rules of any sort did NOT exist 105 years ago in San Francisco.
Do they have rules there now???
A Streetcar Named Dvorak
Was that John C. Dvorak on the bicycle?!
I see where Google came up with the idea for street view cars.. I aso notice that there weren’t many female San Franciscans on the street..
I wonder if it was like Market St. is today….
take 3 steps
Bum asks “got a dollar”
take 3 steps
bum says “gimme a dollar”
take 3 steps
bum yells “I need a dollar”
take 3 step
repeat ad nauseaum.
Is it my imagination or did everyone have a much longer stride than we do today? It would make sense from a time when most people went most places by foot. Anyway, they all look like Mister Natural.
Hats
So many cars given they were new
No traffic lights
No cops
Many U-Turns
All cars were convertibles and no different from the horse carriages.
Many newspaper boys.
Anyone notice that most every car is Right Hand drive?
Cool! I was so caught up in the moment that when a motorcar cut in front of the trolley, I gave the driver the finger.
That’s some first-rate music for traveling back in time.
Seems as though everyone had a great sense of humor back then (this was obvious prior to the invention of the slimey ambulance chaser attorneys!)….because 98 percent of the pedestrians, motorists, bicyclists, and even the horses were playing CHICKEN with the street car! Imagine if cellphones were tossed into the mix? …this could BE the original version of the movie RUSH HOUR!
