Here’s how the stimulus money is being used:

The latest example of this is a $500,000 grant to Michael Mann, Professor at Penn State University and unintended c0-star of the ClimateGate e-mail scandal. The leaked e-mails revealed collaboration among scientists to stifle dissenting views on the extent of man-made global warming.

Mann is also the creator of the “Hockey Stick” graph, which purported to show a sharp increase in recent temperatures. That work has been thoroughly discredited by researcher Stephen McIntyre. Yet, in June 2009, the National Science Foundation awarded Mann a three-year $500,000 to further study the climate’s response to human activity.

  1. SparkyOne says:

A well trained grunt with a M40A3 and 1 round can make Mr. Mann’s carbon footprint very small, very quickly. Even after he is given the “best protection” available.

  2. Derek says:

And if this had been a Republican administration, this would be on every news outlet 24/7. But as usual, it will be ignored and the Democrats get yet another pass.

  3. Skeptic says:

I’m not surprised. $500,000 is a small price to pay an alarmist to keep the AGW crisis alive so that you will spend less time thinking about not having a Job. As Al Gore said,

“As many know, the Chinese expression for “crisis” consists of two characters side by side. The first is the symbol for “danger,” the second the symbol for “opportunity.”

Re: Congressional Testimony on Climate Change by Al Gore

  4. Mr. Fusion says:

    Point #1

The wing nuts and deniers are going to shout “Obama is bad”. “Obama is a Muslim”.

    Point #2

The deniers are going to shout “Mann lied and MacIntyre and McKitterick refuted him. The established science is all a hoax.” “Us ignorant ijits know better”

    Point #3

Cherman/pedro will interject to show their ignorance.

  5. Max Bell says:

Funny how it wasn’t a conspiracy when big oil was picking up the tab for research.

  6. Obamaforever says:

    Quote:
That work has been thoroughly discredited by
    researcher Stephen McIntyre.
    End of quote.

Cherman, you have a very short memory. How short? Drop your pants and you will see how short it is.

We went through this “Stephen McIntyre” crap once before. Please go to this link to get the straight dope on your friend, Cherman.

If you read the article you will see that Stephen McIntyre is a discredited asshole!!

    Cherman, please go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. BigBoyBC says:

The term “Deniers” is politically motivated, meant to discredit opposing views without having to address them.

Carbon Credits are just a way of cashing in on the issue.

Climate-gate show they were cooking the numbers.

Copenhagen showed its more about political power than the environment.

Regardless of the accuracy or even the legitimacy of “global warming” the actions by the proponents of the issue are doing more damage to the issues credibility than the opposition could have ever done.

    The Real Inconvenient Truth

  8. Gasbag says:

Yes Obamaforever “The science is in!” 😛

  9. Obamaforever says:

    of life)

    per #10

pedro, I do not think English is your first
    language.

    You write like you think—fucked-up!!!

  10. Mr. Fusion says:

    #8, Big Boy,

Perhaps you could enlighten us. What numbers were cooked?

It is a real inconvenient truth that the deniers have to resort to fabrications.

  11. deowll says:

    #8 You said it first.

  12. Phydeau says:

Poor wingnuts, struggling so with the shades of gray inherent in science. They just want to be told what to believe!

  13. Skeptic says:

Fusion, how many times do you have to be told? Geez.

The hockey stick graph was cooked. Once again, here is the comparison of the hockey stick graph with the true graph.

  14. jccalhoun says:

A grant is not just a paycheck with no strings attached. It is money that is to be used to further research. It is spent on doing the research not buy a new house or anything.

  15. natefrog says:

    #15, jccalhoun;

Shhh! Quiet, you! Your logic doesn’t fit into the deniers’ world view!

  16. Awake says:

    JCD,

You might want to take a look at how your friends and colleagues are laughing at you and mocking you publicly for your stance on global warming.

Take a listen to Leo Laporte and Dr Maxwell in their ‘Dreamliner’ episode. Or what Dr Kiki has to say… it is obvious that asfar as they are concerned you have crossed the line from clownish cranky out of touch old fart to just plain contrarian loon.

  17. LotsaLuck says:

What gets me is that this guy is being paid in stimulus money. Isn’t that supposed to go toward ‘shovel-ready’ jobs and other unemployment-reducing schemes?

Seems to me that 500K would be enough to hire 10 or 20 people to fill potholes for a year.

  18. jescott418 says:

I heard another well respected weather guru tell of how the global warming opponents of today. Were the same ones predicting a Ice age a decade or so ago. As he pointed out. Even today its hard to predict anything much more then a week in advance with any accuracy. Yes, you can see patterns emerge. But one thing is for certain. Their will be cycles of warming and cooling and blaming man does not explain the cause of those cycles before man existed or that man is to blame now. Its just another theory of which junk science is being used to support global warming.

  19. Wouldn’t this money be better spent cleaning up a park or stream?

  20. jccalhoun says:

So he deosn’t get any monetary compensation from that grant? Really? Just another sheeple.
Is that what I wrote? No. I don’t know the details of the grant. Som grants basically replace the professor’s salary for the year. Others aren’t and none of the money goes into the person’s pocket. So either the guy is getting basically the same ammount of money that he would get from the university — in which case the university is using that money to pay for something else or the guy is not using any of the money on himself.

Sorry if logic and facts make me a sheeple…

  21. jccalhoun says:

Is not logic, which your statement has barely of. If your attempt to rationalize this episode that not only is being used to something other than science, but comes from a source that was destined to help people economically.

So unless this “professor” (and we hope he had a team of several dozen people) was unemployed, your barely functioning argument does not apply.

That’s fine but that’s not what you were calling me a “sheeple” about. You were calling me a “sheeple” because you were asserting that I asserted that he wasn’t going to make money off of the grant. The logic and facts are that your assertion that he is profiting from this is not backed up by logic or facts.

Whether or not someone with a job should get grant money meant to stimulate the economy is another issue. Sorry if my “sheeple” status means that I won’t just attack someone blindly because I don’t like science.

  22. Mr. Fusion says:

    #15, Denier,

Where are the “cooked numbers”? Simply complaining about Mann’s graph (he never called it a “hockey stick”) is not proof. The second graph is not sourced so we have no idea where it came from. Finally, a blog is not a very credible source. Are these your “cooked numbers”?

Mann et al have been acknowledged as accurate by several scientific communities (National Academies of Science, the American Geophysical Union, the American Institute of Physics, the National Center for Atmospheric Research, the American Meteorological Society, NASA, and others). Who has recognized your “phony graph”?

  23. LOWER CASE SCREEN NAME says:

Mann, Hansen, Gore and a few others should be tried for crimes against humanity, then executed.

  24. sproketstevens says:

The mean high tide mark has risen 8 inches over the last 100 years. Its safe to say that that’s either because of precipitation rain snow ie. or both polar caps melting. With the droughts in the USA the desertification of Africa one can assume its polar cap melting.I have posted various links to photographic space imagery, temperature , and ice core samples.IF you dont want to look at it John and just obsess that its all jive so be it I am not going to post any more rebuttal here.I agree the carbon tax credit is a scam for money in a way.The forces that want to keep the status quo are fabulously rich in order to force a change to green power that has to be fueled with money, cap and trade is a way to force that to happen its either that or total government funding on green and restriction of fossil fuels.I am sure the green side is open to any other better system. We are very near the 50 percent marker on oil reserves and we will never know for sure because the oil companies wont tell you the truth until its too late.As oil runs out the race to the bottom of the barrel will be a very sharp parabolic curve.Where the militarys of the world realize they haven’t converted their oil guzzlers over and civilians are rationed to a trickle. So wether its global warming ,oil shortages, USA National Security ,or pollution its time to convert now and faster.Which I might add should be a big boom to silicon valley.

  25. Mr. Fusion says:

    #27, lower case,

And people like you should be dropped off at the Churchill Manitoba garbage dump and told to fend for yourself.
